Sonia Sotomayor to be named Obama’s Nominee to the Bench
President Obama made history today by nominating federal appeals judge Sonia Sotomayor to replace retiring Justice David Souter as the next Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. If confirmed by the Senate, Sotomayor will be the first Hispanic to sit on the bench of America’s highest court.
With more experience than any Supreme Court nominee in the past 70 years, and given the comfortable Democratic majority in the Senate, it is unlikely that her confirmation will be lengthy or difficult.
Sotomayor will replace retiring Justice David Souter.
