It’s all but Official: Gov. Crist will Run

Tomorrow, Florida’s Governor Charlie Crist is expected to announce his candidacy for U.S. Senate.  Crist is known for his moderate conservative views while his primary opponent, Marco Rubio, is the more conservative of the two.  Rubio has positioned himself as such, so the primary battle between them should be, for the most part, bloodless.
The Senate seat in question will be vacated by Senator Mel Martinez, a conservative Republican who will retire after his term expires.

So far, three Democrats have announced their candidacies for the same Senate seat:  U.S. Representative Kendrick Meek, State Senator Dan Gelber, and Mayor Kevin Burns of North Miami.

Crist’s announcement will also set off a chain reaction of campaign announcements for the office which he will be vacating.  Democrat and Chief Financial Officer Alan Sink is expected to announce his bid for Governor, as is State Attorney General Bill McCollum for the Republicans.
