White House Official Quits over Flyover Fiasco

Louis Caldera, Director of the White House Military Office has resigned his post in light of the botched New York City flyover last week that left parts of Lower Manhattan in a state of panic. In a short statement to the President, Caldera said, “I have concluded that the controversy surrounding the Presidential Airlift Group’s aerial photo shoot over New York City has made it impossible for me to effectively lead the White House Military Office.”  President Obama who was infuriated over the April 27 ordeal, accepted his letter of resignation.

For some, the horrors of 9/11 resurfaced as a low-flying 747 flanked by F-16 fighter jets circled around the Statue of Liberty before heading north along the Hudson River.  In a youtube video shot by a pedestrian, one sees scores of people running in panic as the 747 soars over their heads.

The real reason for the flyover:  a government photo shoot.

Mayor Bloomberg  expressed his displeasure over the incident, primarily because he was never notified of the operation.  In a statement to the press, he used words like “furious,” “ridiculous,” and “poor judgment” to highlight his overall sentiment.
